Top 9 Beauty Trends

Water color print dresses and cute flat sandals to complete the outfit. But something’s missing…

New York’s Spring 2010 Fashion Week was a sweet success with all the models flaunting the designers’ hot new lines, but there is no doubt that their makeup stood out and completed each look the designers were aiming for.

No look is complete without makeup to highlight your best features. Being fashionable is one thing, but being a fashionable beauty diva is another. Finish off any look with this season hottest beauty trends!

Long wavy hair, purple lips and popping eyeliner. What suits your style?

Many looks were strutted on the runway, but the ones that appeared most were surprisingly new, and some were a relieving old time favorite.

Here are the top 9 hair and makeup trends that were seen on the runway this season:

Wavy Goddess Locks – One of the most common looks on the runway seemed to be the “goddess” hairdo. Natural looking wavy hair is definitely in this season. To achieve this look, try using Herbal Essences, Tousle Me Softly Flexible Hold Spray, $4 at drugstores.

Peachy Lips – The color the compliments every skin tone is a super trend this season! From deep peachy hues to light apricot shades, peachy lips brightens up every face with a natural look. To get your peach-i-fyed lips, use a coat of Bare Mineral’s Buxom Lips in Amber, $18 at Sephora stores.

Au Natural – Speaking of natural looks…who doesn’t love the looking makeup-less? The runway was filled with models wearing the “natural” look with nude colored lips and a soft pink blush to give them a light flush. To get your natural look, go easy on the foundation by using, Urban Decay’s Surreal Mineral Makeup Foundation, $29-$30 at Sephora stores.

Muted Purple - Remember not too long ago when “the black lip” was the hottest new trend? Well, forget the black, bring on the purple! This look is definitely only for the daring and could only be pulled off with the right outfit and pure confidence. Who ever thought purple lips would be in? If you want to be bold, try Yves Saint Laurent PUR Gloss, in Pure Plum, $30 at Sephora Stores.

Bold Top Liner – Top eyeliner is a favorite amongst many makeup guru’s. It’s because brings out eyes and makes them pop. It’s helps wake up the eyes and gives killer definition! Lucky for all of us, the bold liner is here to stay. For best results, use Mac’s Fluidline Gel Liner in Black Track, $15 MAC stores.

Under-eye Liner
– Wearing under eyeliner is usually typical a hot night out and for a fierce look. It’s typically worn in deeper hues, but this season, pastel under eyeliner is the hot new thing to try. To try this bold look, try NARS Duo Shadow, in Cheyenne, $32 at Sephora Stores.

Dark & Texturized - Light matte nails were last seasons favorite, but this season having darker nails with texture are definitely in. Because matte nails have so much texture, they’re still in this season, but prints and “heathered” nails are also in! To get that texturized look on your nails, try KO Nail Paint in Ox, $19, at koknockout.com

Clean and Light – Everyone adores having long hair to play with, but this season, big & long hair is out. This seasons all about having short and texturized hair. People tend to underestimate the power of having shorter hair. Sometimes, you just have to let go of the weight of heavy hair and take them off your shoulders! Try Garnier Fructis, Shine Serum, $5 at drugstores.

Fresh Pastels
– Although last seasons favorite colors were hot saturated colors, this seasons all about softer colors, such as light apricots, light yellows and baby blues. Try Smashbox Heart Break Eye Palette, $34 at Sephora Stores.

There are plenty of ways to mix and match these looks and you can pick whatever works best with your style!

Little Hope For The Jobless Economy

With the winter rush and the economy slowly growing, people have been scrambling for jobs in hope of finding stability financially.

On February 5
th, 2010, the BLS (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics), released a statement reporting the most recently recorded unemployment rate.

According to the BLS, the number of unemployment has decreased to 14.8 million people. The rate of unemployment went down to 9.7 percent by 0.3 percent in January.

“It’s nothing like we had in the free fall of last winter, but we’re not about to turn around. We’re still looking at a really weak economy,” says Dean Baker, co-director of the Center for Economic and Policy Research in Washington.

The jobless rate for specific major groups showed very little change since last month. Within gender groups, the rate for men went down to 10.0 percent, as the rate for women fell to 7.9 percent.

Within major racial groups, the rate for blacks declined to 16.5 percent, the rate for Hispanics fell to 12.6 percent, the jobless rate for whites were 8.7 percent, while the rate for Asian were 8.4 percent. As for teenagers, the rate went down to 26.4 percent. To see your potential unemployment rate, click here.

About 85,000 jobs have been lost during December. The unemployment rate due to job loss has decreased by 378,000 to 9.3 million.

“Since everyone is struggling, no one wants to buy anything that’s not absolutely a necessity. I’ve been continuously looking for another job for months now since my business has been plummeting to almost nothing. I’m still having trouble finding a job. I have a family to support and I’m barely getting by, things don’t seem to be getting better regardless of what the unemployment rate is saying,” says Teresa Estrello, owner of a company called Imperial Countertops.

The economy has been steadier than the past months, but economists believe that this steady state will soon collapse and result in the highest unemployment rate in the coming months, causing more struggles to keep and find jobs.

“I’ve been unemployed for 6 months. It’s difficult to deal with because it’s almost impossible to afford everyday essentials. I had to drop out of school to work for a bit because things got that serious,” says Laura Xu, a former freshman in college.

Although the rate in job loss has decreased in the nation compared to last winter, it is evident that the economy is still suffering.
